Carpet Trends and Carpet Colour Choices

Current trends in the colour of carpets tend to be about one or two years behind the fashion industry. If you want to see the future carpet colour trends, visit a quality ladies fashion store and look at the colours of women's fine clothes. Carpet trends and colours are moving away from the silvers, hue of grey and mauves previously in fashion to warm jewel tones such as, gold and green are back, but in warmer tones. Khaki is the hot colour and so are suede and leather. Carpet brings softness, fashion, colour, and depth to our home.

It is time you think of floor covering as a fashion statement. Colour is one of the most important aspects of a floor covering decision. Today there are more colours to select. Gone are the days of just green or gold, or just earth tones. Other alternatives to consider are peach, salmon, cherry, wine, spruce, jade, mushroom, vanilla, sapphire, emerald, pewter, ruby or clay to name a few. You can even have your carpet custom dyed to match that special piece of furniture.
Current interior design is more toward a softer and delicate look which gives a room a sumptuous feel, also nature inspired designs which are woven or tufted into simple floral designs, such as vines and trellises, organic shapes or geometric patterns, plaids, tartan and pin dots.
Choosing the colour of carpet for your home is a primary consideration. The blending of subtle shading creates depth. Remember that lighter colours reflect and increase light, creating an illusion of space, while darker colours absorb light, creating a closer and more intimate look.
Flecks of colour against plain backgrounds are suitable for large rooms so are the new neutral colours of soft greens, pale yellows, and shades of blue and smoky greys.
The shift in carpet is toward layered colour and soft texture carpet. A combination of texture and pattern will always be popular because it minimizes soil and vacuum marks. The other advantage is that colour and texture offer more distinctive styling and fashion appeal. New manufacturing processes have produced many new looks in carpet construction with cut and loop yarns in high and low loop yarns.
Carpet will never go out of fashion. Choose your favourite object in each room and make your colours around it. Try and have a flow of colour throughout your home by using varying shades of the same colour. Do not match your Carpet colour exactly to your wall colour instead choose lighter or darker opposing shades to give the room variation. Let your carpet accentuate the rooms in a positive light, this highlights the items in the room of your choice.
During this process a good idea is to collect photos and magazine pages of room designs you like and keep swatch samples of carpet and fabric you like at all times for comparison.
When choosing a carpet colour be as practical as your decor will allow you to be. LIGHTER colours will show more dirt despite the most advanced stain resistant technology. DARKER colours hide lots of soil, but could require more frequent vacuuming to keep lint and crumbs from being noticed. If you have a room that you want to make look bigger, then a lighter colour is a must.
The carpet colour you see in the sample may not be the same as the carpet colour that gets installed in your home because of the dying process during the manufacturing of carpet. Short of custom dyeing, there is no way to ensure an exact colour match from store sample to roll of carpet fitted in your home, such colour variation is negligible and most people will not notice a slight difference.
Warm Colours can range from the very lightest of yellows to the very darkest of reds. When choosing a warm colour such as oranges, reds, and yellows. When applying these types of colour choices to a carpet, the warm colours translate into browns and rusts. The darker medium browns and rusts will anchor your room and these darker warmer shades will make the room intimate, especially if you continue on the warmer theme on the walls as well.
Neutral Colours can be warm or cool. These are beige’s and tans and cool colours are certain hues of grey. Both colour ranges, tans and greys, are popular carpet colour selections. These colours in carpet are considered safe or boring but by selecting a subtle pattern or obvious textures we can step up the look for a bold and fresh look. Most carpets are chosen within the neutral colour palette range.
Cool Colours go from light to dark. In choosing a carpet colour in the cool family be aware of the lightness or darkness of the colour. The safe choices in the cool family are the blues and greens. Choosing a darker shade of blue or green can still provide a cool looking room but the darker the shade, the more grounded your room will feel. The Lighter the green colour, the more open and airy the room will appear. Cool colours are represented in more neutral tones. Grey flecks or dots with a shade of green as the background colour can still produce a cool colour.
Bold Colours are mainly chosen as an option by those who are certain of what they are doing such as professionals. The choice of a bold colour for a carpet could be a bright red carpet in a subtle painted room through to stark white carpet in a darkly painted room. A successful pairing is bold colours with a suitable combination of carpet, paint, fabric, and accessories. Availability for bold carpet colours may appear narrow in comparison with neutral carpet colours, but bold colour offerings are highly researched to be as close to trend colours as possible.
